Camp.

This week I went on camp. I went to the Lakes and it rained almost everyday. We did things that involved team work and we canoed up to the Lake Head Hut, we slept under the fly Tuesday night and it rained. I had to carry cheese and crackers and biscuits in my pack which we ate on the tramp back. We had to walk through swollen rivers by being in teams and linking arms. A possum crawled into the girls shelter and made them scream. Went white water rafting and it was really cool and heaps of fun. It snowed Thursday night on the mountains.

For ICL at school today we were doing blogs. As I already have a blog, i got creative and put some fish on it which have to be feed and I also joined my brothers to mine as well.

Mountain Biking

At school for one of my modules I am doing Mountain Biking. It's really fun and each week we go to different places. Also at school for my technology this term I am learning to sew. Next tech will be cooking. I enjoy the cooking, cause not only do you get to eat the end result but it's quick and easy dishes. Last week we had our winter tournament. Some schools were local and some we billeted. I didn't do anything this year. As it's winter at the moment we have all had colds so can't wait for the summer months.

swimming sports

Today we had our swimming sports and i got 4th in my race, freestyle one length year 8 boys. I was also in the relay team and we did quite well.
i have had a lot of homework since starting school.

Lilly's lamb

Today my pet lamb Lilly had her very first lamb. Shes not to sure what to do with it but i think she will be ok. At the moment she would rather have something to eat. After tea we will go and check on her and get her ready for bed. The lamb is a girl.

my cousins

Last weekend our cousins came to stay. We went over to the creek and built some huts in the long grass. We cut some branches off the willow trees and made bows and arrows using sticks and string(from the bails of hay) and even made a slingshot. We ate lots of chocolate and lollies while we were over there. I hope they can come and stay again before school starts.

Winter tornaments sports

On Thursday and Friday we had our winter sports. There were heaps of different schools egWestport, Blenheim. I didn't do any sports because I was helping with the cooking, for all the coaches and teachers. We made pizzas, soup and chelsea buns. It was really fun.

Rosies calf

Today while i was at school our pet cow Rosie had her calf and it is a boy. He is all brown with half of his face, down the centre is white. She lets us pat the calf and doesn't mind us in the paddock. Rosie is the calf my brother and I took to pets day 5 years ago and was on the school web site.

Our cousin

On the weekend our cousin came with his dad and he brought his bike. We went biking around the place, through heaps of puddles. What made it really cool was that it was also raining and we got horribly wet and muddy but it was really fun. Great to see you the other day Miss K , hope you had a great time away. Enjoyed the photos.

Logging truck ride

I went with dad yesterday in his log truck but it was only for half a day. We went to the port twice and we also went up to Maitai, Charlands Creek. Then you go up to Goat Hill road where you can look across to the Maitai Dam. Today we had a lot of rain and we had a bit of a flood nothing to serious though. Before I forget and Miss K asks me, the truck ride was really cool being up so high.

Poetry

At school we have been doing poetry. We all had a turn in our class then the best 4 in our class got to the syndicate semi-finals. I got that far with a poem that we did in miss K's class several years ago. I was really pleased with myself that I got that far. Another boy Alex from my old school got to the finals but Tim also from my old school won it with another boy. Didn't the Appleby kids do well.

I've just had another birthday so guess what???? I'm another year older. Anyway I got lots of presents mainly Lego. I like Lego because I can make many things, things that I design in my head. I have nearly finished building all of the models that I got.

We had to sell chocolates at school (which i told you about) well anyhow today we had the draw. All the people that sold boxes of chocolate went into a draw to win one prize out of nine. Guess what?? my name was called out and I went up and chose a prize. I chose an i pod which I don't know how to work yet, but will look at the instructions or give Miss K a call.

Mountain biking certificate

At last weeks school assembly I got a certificate for my mountain biking that I did last term. It was a down hill race which I've blogged about already. I came 24th and my best time was 4min 30. I bet another bike that was more expensive than mine, so i am really pleased with myself. I have cold germs at the moment so have had some time off school. I am feeling a lot better now as I have given family my free germs.

Chocolate

At school we have been selling chocolate bars these past weeks. I've sold most to my grandparents which has been great when I go to stay at their place. Not much has been happening so theres not much to blog about. We are doing x country running at school and I am getting really fast.

Mountain Biking

On Friday 10 kids from my school went on a summer tournament mountain biking down hill race. It was at the Tantragee Saddle in town. We had a practice run and then on the next run we were timed. My time was 4 minutes and 30 sec. It was a fun day and then at the end we had enough time for a fun ride.

Staying Alive

Today we went to the Staying Alive expo at the show grounds. Dad went with his fire brigade team. We saw a pretend bush fire which dads team lite then had to show us how they put it out. At the end of the expo they lite an old house that had been placed there for demo. In ten minutes the roof had fallen in and there was a lot of smoke and flames. I found the expo interesting.

Baling Hay

Another paddock of hay cut and here I am baling the paddock. Behind the tractor is the baler and behind that is the accumulator which puts the hay into a group of 8 and then lets them out. These are then picked up by the impaler which is hooked on to the front end loader of our other tractor. Saves picking bales up by hand in the paddock.

Motorbike racing

Today we went and watched the motorbike racing at Rabbit Island on the beach front. The tide was out. There were lots of crashes and lots of people stalling their motorbikes on the corners. There were quad bikes and two wheel bikes. They raced really fast on the straights. It was really fun to watch.

Lilly and her friend

Lilly our pet lamb has a new friend. It is a girl calf that we have weaned from its mother. They eat and even sleep next to one another. Sometimes when lying down the calf will rest her head on Lilly and sometimes she even licks her.

Our walk

We went for a walk up the Hackett to the hut and it took us about 1hour and 15 min instead of 1hour and 45 minutes. It was really hot and a lot of people were swimming in the river. My brother and I took out bikes while mum and dad walked. Some people had dogs with them. We went and had a look at the waterfall (Whispering Falls) but because there has been no rain it wasn't very big. The water was coming out of moss at the top of the hill.

The other day we all went to the Appleby river with my two cousins. It was a really hot day but I had heaps of sunscreen on so I didn't get burnt. There was a branch in the water by the riverside, there were crawlies and ells underneath it. We caught 4 crawlies and made little pens for them and let them go when we went. There was one really big one and it kept fighting with the others. The water was really warm.

Today I drove the tractor with the help of my Granddad to rake hay so that it will dry ready for baling on Monday. It was lots of fun and hopefully on Monday I will also get to bale the hay. Hope its not to hot because I will be outside all day.

Shearing Shed Floor

Yesterday I helped build a shearing shed floor. We cut the timber to the right sizes and then I helped Dad nail it to the floor joist. Each piece of timber had to be 10mm apart to form the grating floor. It was real fun and I enjoyed helping Dad.

Year 6 Leaving Ceremony

On Tuesday we had our end of year assembly and year 6 ceremony where we had to say a small speech. We were also given a badge with the school logo on it, and a photo of us year 6's. We sang Christmas songs and had supper at the end.

Mega Milk Top Kids

On Monday I went with my class to Mega Milk. It was really fun and there were lots of activities. My favourite was the one where you had to hold a bucket of water on a flat surface and run with it around an obstacle course. At the end we had to pour it into a tube. We had a water fight at the end of the day.

Our Bull

He is five years old and is a Hereford. He has many "children". He is very quite and loves to have a brush and cuddle. He is like a guard dog because when strangers come he bellows really loud. He weighs over 1000 kgs so mind your toes when you are up close.

Nelson Lakes

We went up to the lakes a couple of weekends ago and it was really hot. The lake was quite full from all the rain we had had during the week. While we were there having lunch, this tourist guy got his camper van stuck in the gravel. He was there for about half an hour trying to get out . In the end people from Kiwi Experience bus came and helped. At the end the Kiwi Experience driver got him out. It was very entertaining.

Penguins

The penguins we saw at the Antarctic Centre were all refugees. One had a new beak made out of fibre glass, one was blind, one had a bad wing, one was caught in an old fishing net and had to have its leg amputated. One was called Elvis and it was a girl. When they feed the penguins they record how much each one has eaten and they have 2 (or 3) meals a day.

Tram and Gondala

In Christchurch we went for lots of rides on the Tram which took us around some of the old buildings and down lots of side streets. We could get on and off as many times as we liked. Also we went on the Gondala where we saw all of Christchurch and Littleton. In the distance we could see a train which went through a tunnel.

Antarctic Centre

In the holidays we went to Christchurch and visited the Antarctic Centre where we saw the penguins being fed and some of the new penguins have little shoes on their feet so that they don't get sore when walking over the small stones. We went in a blizzard and it was really cold and loud. We went on the Hagland which was a bit freaky but fun.

I now have 100 hits on my blog, yeeeee haaaa horrrray. Have finished our science projects and are now doing wacky hats for the school country fair. We are also starting our masks for the mask parade in a couple of months. Can't wait for the school holidays so I can have a bit of a rest from all this activities!!!!!

our lambs have arrived and they are really cute. We mainly have twins and the poor mothers have a problem when one twin goes one way and the other goes another way. We have another 12 sheep to lamb and are waiting for our old pet sheep to have hers. Can't wait to see them all running around the paddock. Will put a photo on soon.

Dairy cows

This is a photo of some of the dairy cows that come to stay at our place every winter. They are Jersey cows and they will go home in August to have their calves and to start milking. They live in Takaka and travel on a stock truck and they do get travel sick sometimes.

My cat brought in a live stoat which we had to chase around our lounge while my cat watched. It ran around the lounge and hide under the couch. It screamed really loud. My cat must be really brave (or stupid). I hope she doesn't bring in another one.

Last week was my birthday and I got some cool presents. I got a big box of Lego and are half way through building some of the things from it. I even got some chocolate but that has now gone. And no Miss K I didn't get a new hat... !!!

Log Truck Ride

Today I went with my dad in his log truck. We went to the Owen which is near Murchison. I had to get out of bed at 4.30 am to be on the road by 5.00am. Later in the day we did a load from Rabbit Island. It was lots of fun but I forgot the camera.

My brother Kyle won his race at the inter-school. He was really puffed at the finish and was pleased to have won. Everyone cheered for him as he got near to the finish. Appleby came first and third in this picture.

Today at the movies

Today mum and I went to the movies to see Pirates of the Caribbean and it was very funny in some places and a bit boring in some parts. The poor British ship got bombed by 2 pirate ships and ended up in flames, that was really neat. It went for 3 hours. I cant wait for the DVD to come out.

Interschool X Country

Today we did X Country. When I raced there were about nearly 50 kids running at the same time. I think i came between 10 and 20. I was the 2nd Appleby person to cross the finish line. I was really tired at the end.

Ripper Rugby

On Wednesday was Ripper Rugby at Brightwater. We won our first game and lost our next. We were there all day and we missed out on reading, writing and maths and we were really happy. I scored a try.

X Country
